Reflection Definition

Dictionary Definition: The throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat, or sound without absorbing it.

My Own Definition: The mirroring of an object when light shines onto glass, water, or metal creating the bounce-back of an image.

Words to Describe Reflection: Mirror, Shine, Parallel, Copy, Light, Mimic, Image.

Four Annotated Pictures:

Reflection can be used in an artistic manner. For example, this picture shows an elderly looking into his reflection, but instead of seeing himself exactly as he is, he sees either a younger version of himself, or is seeing someone that has been on his mind.

Sometimes the photographer likes to be seen deliberately in the reflection of something, such as someone's sunglasses. This could also be viewed as quite an artistic trait in photography. The man's sunglasses also reflect other people in the other eye, portraying what he is seeing from his view point.

Yet another controversial photograph is shown here. Although clearly edited, this picture is a prime example of what reflection is, for we can see exactly who is supposed to be in the space the shoes have left empty, due to the puddle's reflection.

This picture is quite similar to the last in the respect that it is a reflection of someone in a puddle, except this time we can actually see the foot of someone, so we know where the reflection is being cast from. This is a prime example of how reflection can show us an event so we don't even have to see it in it's actuality, which is quite an artistic skill.
