Contrast Definition

Official Definition: the state of being strikingly different from something else in juxtaposition or close association.

My Definition: Two or more objects or themes that are the opposite, or differ to a great extent.

Words to describe contrast: Opposite, Different, Clash, Divergence, Variation

Four annotated pictures:

The above photo depicts contrast in natural circumstances. The entire field appears to be green, aside from the one flower right at the very front, which we can see is a vibrant red. This is contrast because it shows a difference between colours and texture (the field looks rough, whereas the flower looks delicate and smooth)

This photograph is a very clear example of what could be described as contrast. The difference between the type of sand is made clear by the distinct line separating the smooth, light sand and the curvy, bumpy, dark sand. The textures of both sands may also differ, due to the fact that they've both had a different environmental impact to change their colour.

The contrast in this photograph is showing the difference in the size of two tomatoes. They also are a different shade of red, which can be seen as yet another contrast between them. Also, they appear to be a different texture, for the bigger tomato looks quite wrinkly and bumpy, whereas the smaller tomato looks smooth.

The contrast in this photograph shows the difference in emotion of this dog. In the left image, the dog looks sad, with it's mouth closed and it's ears flapped down. In the right image, however, the dog has it's mouth open and it's ears are perked up, which we can assume means it is happier than it is in the left image.
