Form Definition

Dictionary Definition:

The visible shape or configuration of something.

My own definition:

A 3D shape that is able to portray various shades

I like, and have chosen this picture to include in my annotated picture because of it's controversiality. Normally, the man would be in a light room, with a dark shadow, yet in this picture, he is in a dark room, with a light shadow.


This picture is interesting because it depicts a shadow of a person taking a picture of their shadow taking a picture, and on the camera you can see this occur over and over again, gradually getting smaller. This is a clever way of using your own shadow as an advantage to grasp 'form'.


This is a basic example of what a shadow looks like, and how they are used to a photographers advantage to capture form.


Again, this picture depicts controversiality, for we would normally expect a shadow to only be cast if a person was standing there, however, there is only a pair of shoes.
