Lines Definition

Definition:
1) A long, narrow mark or band.
2) A length of cord, rope, wire or other material serving a particular purpose.

My Definition of Lines:
A mark that goes from one point to another, whether it be straight or curved, small or long and thick or thin.

There are many words to describe the appearance of a line, for there are many different kinds of lines. Some are straight or curved, short or long, and 3D or 2D. Some are man-made, some are natural. Lines can be so huge that they go on for miles, or they can be so small that you need a microscope to see them. We use lines to keep our writing straight and organised, we use lines to draw, or to work out angles.

This picture shows lines within a man-made object. The wooden planks in the bench are separated slightly, creating the image of straight lines.

This picture shows lines within nature, specifically the shape of trees. The tree trunks also appear to have horizontal lines across them, creating the image of both vertical and horizontal lines.

This picture also shows lines within nature. However, unlike the previous lines, these lines in the sand are curved in a wavy pattern, as a result of the sea. Some lines have rocks and pebbles in them, darkening them.

Again, this picture shows lines within nature, but these lines are part of a pattern belonging to a species of fish. Although slightly bumpy, these lines are relatively straight, and rather colourful as well.
