Texture Definition

Dictionary Definition: the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance.

My Own Definition: How a substance, object or creature feels upon touch.

Words to Describe Texture: Soft, Rough, Patched, Smooth, Scratchy, Fluffy

Four Annotated Pictures:

This photograph depicts texture within natural circumstances, which in this instance, is the stubble of a beard. This, to me, is a good representation of texture because it allows me to be reminded of how stubble feels just by looking at the photograph.

This photograph depicts texture within manmade circumstances, which in this instance, I assume is a wicker product. This, again, allows me to be reminded about the rough, yet smooth feel that wicker gives at the touch.

This third photograph depicts different types of texture within nature. Just by looking at this photograph, I can imagine the roughness of the rocks, and also how the ocean feels. This is therefore a good representation of texture through photography.

This photograph is slightly different than the other ones, due to the fact that it depicts a liquid substance. Although water has no specific feel to it, the temperature can be felt, which is important on how it effects what we feel when we touch it.
